Moderator Digital Economic Forum 2017
Award-winning journalist Barbara Lüthi reported for Swiss Television from China between 2006 and February 2014, probing the boundaries of what is currently tolerated in communist China.
Courageous, direct and dauntless, she made features about the country that allowed the viewer more than just a mere glimpse behind the facades of the Shanghai skyline. In 2008, CNN nominated her "Journalist of the Year" for the German-speaking world for her feature about dispossessed farmers.
After completing language studies in Sydney, Zurich-born Lüthi launched her career with her own talk show broadcast on the private television channel Star TV, before joining TV3 as a video-journalist. From 2001, she worked on Swiss Television’s "Rundschau", a politics and business-oriented format. In 2005, she won the "CNN Journalist Award" for her report "Spielzeug-Fabrik" (Toy Factory) on the working conditions in Chinese toy factories, and in the same year also received recognition for a report exposing child trafficking on the Greek-Albanian border.
Barbara Lüthi was born in 1973 and currently lives with her two children in Hong Kong.
